Superb technology requires superb design
High tech solutions require form to follow function. But we have had a vision for our wFoil boat to be, not only technologically superb, but also state-of-the-art from the design point of view. To achieve that goal, we have connected with the Wilsonic Design company, which specializes in high-tech industrial design. Every detail has been taken care of from the technical and functional as well as from the design point of view.
That's how wFoil 18 Albatross will act on the water. We perform testing on radio controled model scaled 1:4. After more than 40 testing days we got enought informations to start with designing of wFoil 18 Albatross.
Arts & Crafts
Carefully selected materials has been used and processed by hand to ensure, in every aspect, the top quality of the final product. Life time experiences of engineers and craftsmen has been built into the wFoil 18 Albatros.
Hull
Due to its specific, mountain spruce wood has been selected for the hull. Paneling consists of 970 metres (approximately 3.200 feet) of carefully processed wooden strips. They have been mounted onto the frame made from aircraft plywood. Laser technology enabled us to reach the perfectly curved shape. The final result is a laminated, water proof hull with extremely light but rigid structure which is only about 20% heavier that a full-carbon one.
Cross Beams
Aluminium alloy (7000) from aircraft industry, used for the cross beams has been additionally treated to be protected and sea water resistant.
Hydro Foils
Hydro foils, floats and other composite parts are made of carbon composites which ensure to be able to sustain extreme forces at top speeds. Vacuum technology has been used during the process to achieve top product results.
QA
Quality assurance has been employed as an integral part of the whole process. Every part separately has been tested on paper, on computer simulations, numerous scale models as well as the final product mounted on the Albatros. Performance, as well as production aspects, has been taken into the account during all stages of the development.
